We're recruiting - IFOW Trustee Board Treasurer

The Institute for the Future of Work (IFOW) is an independent research and development institute exploring how new technologies are transforming work and society. We generate insight and evidence, shape policy, and engage with diverse partners to promote a fairer future through better work.

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborating with the Executive team to provide strategic oversight of IFOW's mission, vision, and goals.

• Contributing to the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, identifying potential donors and partners, and leveraging resources to achieve our objectives.

• Comply with the governing document, statutory accounting, and charity law.

• Protect assets, manage risks, and ensure responsible, prudent financial management.

• Ensure the charity remains accountable to stakeholders, donors, and regulators.

• Providing advice and support on governance, financial management, and operational matters, working closely with the Executive Director and fellow board members.

• Actively participating in board meetings, committee meetings, and other essential events.

• Occasionally representing IFOW at public events, conferences, and media engagements, acting as a spokesperson if appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes      

• Strong commitment to IFOW's mission and values, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to the future of work.

• Demonstrated leadership experience in relevant fields, such as fundraising, research, policy, business, or communications. Experience in fundraising, particularly in foundation/grant, corporate, or local authority settings, is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with charity boards or other governance structures, along with a solid understanding of governance principles and practices.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders and the ability to build consensus on strategic priorities.

• Proficiency in fundraising and resource mobilization strategies, including experience in grant writing and donor engagement.

• Proven ability to think creatively and strategically, contributing to the development of innovative and impactful solutions to complex challenges.

What We Offer

• Time Commitment: As a Trustee, you will be expected to commit approximately 4 hours per month to IFOW activities, including board meetings, committee meetings, fundraising endeavours, and other relevant events. Trustees are appointed for a term of three years, with the possibility of reappointment for an additional term.

• Compensation: Please note that the Trustee role at IFOW is voluntary and uncompensated. However, reasonable travel expenses and other costs associated with IFOW activities may be reimbursed.
