Why Are There Still So Many Jobs? The History and Future of Workplace Automation

This paper by David Autor notes that many jobs which have highly routinised components involve other tasks which are difficult to ‘unbundle’ without a significant drop in quality. He argues it is therefore important to focus on tasks rather than jobs when thinking about automation.
