People and Place - the geography of good work

IFOW acts as secretariat and strategic research partner for the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Future of Work.

Through this year, Matt Warman MP, the new APPG co-chair and former lead for the Government’s Future of Work Review, will be completing a review with his co-chair Lord Jim Knight and with IFOW's support.

Building on the topics identified for the government’s attention last year, these events will focus on people and place, skills and capabilities, workers’ rights, and AI and automation.

This opening event on Wednesday will be focused on people and place and explore access to good work across the country in this context. In doing so, we will benefit from IFOW's Good Work Monitor and the forthcoming Pissarides Review.

We will be exploring some of the following questions:

• How are patterns in access to good work across the country changing?
• How can good work promote wellbeing and prosperity for people and places across the country?
• Which policy and other levers are available to create and sustain good work across the country?
• How could national and local Future of Work strategies be developed implemented?

Speakers include:

  • Guy Opperman MP, Minister of State for Employment
  • Professor Philip McCann, Chair of Urban and Regional Economics at Alliance Manchester Business School
  • Professor Sir Christopher Pissarides, Regius Professor of Economics, LSE and IFOW co-founder
