The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Future of Work is a cross-party group of MPs and Peers working together to shape a future of work that is inclusive, innovative, and shaped by evidence. It provides a vital forum for Parliamentarians to engage with cutting-edge research, lived experience, and policy proposals that respond to the profound transformations underway in how we live, work and thrive.
Co-chaired by Andrew Pakes MP and Lord Jim Knight, the APPG brings together Parliamentarians from across political parties alongside leading experts, trade unions, business representatives, and civil society to explore emerging trends and policy interventions. It focuses on ensuring that technological change, including AI and automation, leads to better outcomes for people, work and society.
The APPG is supported by the Institute for the Future of Work (IFOW), which acts as the group’s secretariat. IFOW works to deepen understanding of the changing world of work and support practical solutions that advance equality, wellbeing, and prosperity.
Recent areas of focus have included:
● AI and algorithmic management in the workplace
● The good work dividend and place-based industrial strategy
● Skills policy and lifelong learning
● Worker voice and participation in technological change
● The impact of technology on the Creative Industries
● Data rights and protections at work
The APPG has hosted roundtables, inquiries, and expert briefings to inform and influence policymaking on these critical issues. It also provides a platform for Parliamentarians to scrutinise developments in legislation—from data use and access to employment rights—and to advocate for a just transition into the future of work.
